Indie Thursdays: Nail Sauce Page Me, Maybe?

Hi everyone! It's Indie Thursdays once again. Time sure has flown by fast, hasn't it?! I missed Mainstream Mondays and OWWWP due to my three-part Island Girl review and I didn't want to let Indie Thursdays pass too, so here ya go!

For today's post I have a Nail Sauce by Feliifel polish for you called Page Me, Maybe? (I wonder if it's a play on a certain CArly Rae Jepsen song that tends to stay in your hea for like, forever...) I bought it off an IG blog sale a while back and have only used it for one mani for our tuplet nails. (More on that in a separate blog post; my superfriends are too awesome to just be a side note in a blog post! Lol) I have this thing where I tend to hoard buy polish and just dump it in my untrieds pile. Bad, I know! I think I should do an "untrieds month" or something.

I was supposed to do two Nail Sauce polishes today but for some reason, today is just not my day! I think a lot of you can relate, when you just have "those days" when nothing you try seems to be working out. So I ended up with just one polish for this post. (Good, because I'm also running out of indies for Indie Thursdays lol.)

Anyway, here is Page Me, Maybe?

Page Me, Maybe? is a crème white base that's not quite as opaque as a regular white polish, but not as milky as other white-based indies I've tried so far. I was able to get regular crème white polish-like opacity in two slightly thick coats, whereas with other milky white indies, three coats still look a little sheer. I haven't tried it over white undies, but to me it was opaque enough not to need it. Anyway, PM,M? is a white crème base with tiny purple and pink glitters, plus large purple hex glitters. As I have mentioned, I used two slightly thick coats plus top coat. I also had to manually place the large hex glitters because the way I applied it they would've drowned in the polish. You can probably do three thin coats to make the tiny glitters pop out more, but I was just too tired to repeat the process. This took me three tries to get it to look like this and I wasn't about to keep repeating it!

Thoughts? I like this polish; I like the color scheme, and I've always been a sucker for white-based glitter polish. But for some reason I find the base too opaque for my taste. Which is probably preferred by others, but I like my whites milky... With that being said, it doesn't take away from the beauty of this polish at all. I think the opacity works with the color scheme, because I'm trying to imagine this being milky and it doesn't look good in my head, lol. So I think Felii had the good idea to make it more opaque. If I had anything else to say about this polish is that it got a little too clumpy after a few coats, and the glitters liked to stick to the sides. No matter how hard I shook the bottle or how long I left it upside down, the glitters were so stubborn and refused to let go of the side of the bottle. Maybe it didn't do this when it was new. I don't exactly know when she released it, so I don't know how old it is.

Would I recommend this polish? Yes, for the most part. Don't let my issues deter you from this beautiful polish. Only thing is, I don't think it's available any longer. As with almost all indies, some of their shades are limited edition, which makes them all the more special. But if you find this in a blog or IG sale, then go grab it!

That's it for this week's Indie Thursdays! I hope you continue to stay with me til the next posts. :)

*I bought this polish with my own money through an IG blog sale. Nail Sauce polishes can be bought from Felii's Bigcartel store. Polishes start at $8 plus shipping, and she also sells some nail art supplies.*

Island Girl Hawaii Polish Haul Part 3: Island Paradise, Island Sunset and Island Heat (or so it says on the bottles...)

Hiiii errbodyyy! So. I have the last three polishes from my haul last weekend from Vegas. (See part one here and part 2 here.)

Before I jump to the swatches, I'd like to tell you a story. So apparently three out of the four polishes that I've already swatched before were mislabeled... I don't really know what's the case, because I haven't seen these polishes before in person, so I don't really know what the real colors or names are supposed to be. Someone said they were mislabeled; somebody else said they probably recycled the names or something. Anyway, I decided to just ignore the names and just enjoy the colors. ;) So for this post, I'm just going to go by what the labels say, and if you ever find these polishes under a different name or a polish with the same name as these, just let me know. :)

So, let's get started!

Leading the pack is Island Paradise.

Two coats, no undies, with top coat
One coat over undies, plus top coat

Island Paradise is a medium bubblegum pink crème base with tiny and small blue matte hex glitters. I was expecting the base to be a little less opaque. I did two thickish coats without undies plus top coat, and another one with undies (Colour Gossip Fashionista) plus one coat of polish and top coat. This polish was a little bit on the thick side.

Next up is Island Sunset.

Three coats, no undies, with top coat
One coat over undies, plus top coat

Island Sunset is a bright yellow crème base with the same glitters as Island Paradise. For this polish I did one with three coats by itself, and another one with undies (SHXW Mellow Yellow) plus one coat of IS and top coat. This polish applied the best out of the three, with the thinnest formula.

Last but certainly not the least, here is Island Heat.

Three coats, no undies, with top coat
One coat over undies, plus top coat

Island Heat is a light aqua blue crème base with the same glitters as the other two polishes. This was the most problematic to apply out of all three polishes. It had the thickest formula, and it got clumpy as I was applying it. Shame, because I really liked the way this one looked. Again, I did three coats without undies plus top coat, and another with undies (Colour Gossip All About Me) plus one coat of IH and top coat. For some reason, irl this polish reminds me of Sully from Monsters, Inc. If the glitters were purple, it'd have been the perfect Sully polish!

Thoughts? While I like the idea of these polishes, I wish the base were less opaque. Or it went on perfectly with one coat, because the glitters get buried underneath the opacity of the base. I prefer the look over undies. While it does not really change the look of the polish because the base of the Island Girl polishes are pretty opaque by themselves, it still helps because you only have to use one slightly thick coat so the glitters stay prominent. The formula wasn't consistent, either, with Island Heat being the thickest and Island Sunset the thinnest out of all three. By default my favorite is usually the blue, but for these polishes, my favorite is the yellow one.

Would I recommend these polishes? Yes and no. For polish hoarders collectors, I recommend these just because you can never have too many crème-based glitters,. But personally, I'd suggest you just spend a little extra and order indie polish instead, if you like the look of glitters in a milky/crème base. Some sellers will even let you customize a shade of your own, so you can recreate these polishes if you wanted. Indies are also relatively more accessible than these because indies will usually ship anywhere within the US (some do only CONUS, while others include Puerto Rico and Canada) and some are also available from international sellers. When it comes down to it, it's all up to you if you want to hunt these down, or request from your nail mail buddy, or pass up on it completely.

And that wraps up my Island Girl polish haul! Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. I hope you'll be here for the next posts! :)

*I bought these polishes with my own money at the ABC Stores in Las Vegas on Tropicana Ave. Each bottle is $2.99 plus tax. Here is a list of their locations, but the only stores in the continental US are located in Las Vegas (they have eight stores there.) You can also order some sets here, but they don't have a lot of choices and shipping is $9. Island Girl is sold exclusively in ABC Stores.*

Island Girl Hawaii Polish Haul Part 2: Surfer Babe and Honolulu Orchid (plus an update!)

*UPDATE: Apparently, Surfer Babe is more neon than this. My new friend Mayli of Mommy Needs A Manicure Stat said it looks more like Big Island Volcano. (She said she'll check it out in the store; she lives in Hawaii! How cool is that?!) ALSO, Honolulu Orchid seems to be a hot pink polish rather than the blue I got! This is so confusing!!!*

Hello everybody! As promised, here is part two of my recent Island Girl polish haul. (See part 1 here.)

I have two cream polishes for this installment of my Island Girl haul. Lately, I only have the energy to swatch a couple or so polishes at a time, so please bear with me.

Without further ado, let's get right to the polishes!

Here is Surfer Babe.

Surfer Babe is a pale seafoam green creme. It's less blue-toned in person. More on the yellowish side of seafoam than aqua; that's the best way I can describe it. It's a very pretty seafoam green and I wish the true color would show on camera! I used three coats plus top coat.

Next up: Honolulu Orchid.

Without top coat
With top coat

Honolulu Orchid is a light blue polish with pink/orchid shimmer running through it. The color is similar to Sinful Colors Cinderella in person, but the shimmer is more fine in this one. (I should totally do a comparison one of these days!) I tried so hard to capture the true color; I played with lighting and camera settings but it still won't give me the result I want! Also, I feel bad that the shimmer doesn't really show up on camera and barely translates on the nail. You can see it on the bottle though, right by my fingertips. This one also dries to a matte finish. For comparison I posted one without a top coat and one with top coat. I used three coats but if you're patient enough you can get away with two.

Thoughts? I like the colors. I don't think I have a dupe for Surfer Babe, so I'm glad I got it. The application puts me off a bit though, but maybe it's expected because I always tend to use three coats for light creme polishes. Maybe a more adept person can get away with two coats. As for Honolulu Orchid, it looked pretty in the bottle but I wasn't expecting it to be a matte, and I wish the shimmer was more visible when you put the polish on. The matte finish isn't really a big issue because you can use top coat to remedy that. The brushes feel a little less fluffier than the first two IGs I posted. But like the first two, the brushes were pretty soft.

Would I recommend these polishes? If you don't have a similar-colored polish yet then yes, I would. But if you don't have access to these polishes then I suggest just trying to find a dupe for them. But if you're a serious polish hoarder collector then by all means, get them! ;)

That's it for part two of my Island Girl polish haul! Stay tuned for the final installment. :)

Island Girl Hawaii Polish Haul Part 1: Aloha Sunset and Sugar Cane (plus an update!)

Hi errbody! Last Saturday (June 22nd) was me and my boyfriend's fifth anniversary. It also fell on the second day of summer and what better way to spend it than a weekend getaway at The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort and Spa in Henderson, Nevada! We checked in Friday night and checked out Sunday noon. We spent the weekend kayaking and swimming, and just enjoying life. :) I was sad that the weekend had to end, but there is this thing called work on a Sunday night, which is interfering with my playtime. But if I don't go to work, no money for playtime! Oh, it's a catch-22 situation. Haha.

Here's a little glimpse of our celebration <3

Anyway, a Vegas trip isn't complete without a trip to ABC Stores to buy, what else, nail polish! Island Girl nail polish to be exact. The Strip was actually about sixteen miles from where we were staying at, but we had our anniversary dinner at Cravings at the Mirage so I took advantage and purchased some Island Girls.

I managed to cull my choices down to seven, but will only post two for now. (Two are all I have the energy for today. I'm pooped!) For part one of the Island Girl haul, I chose to feature the two blinding neons that I bought: Aloha Sunset and Sugar Cane.

First: Aloha Sunset.

Without top coat
With top coat
Holy neon... Aloha Sunset is a bright neon pink. It's much brighter and a more saturated pink in person. Neon polishes are notoriously known to be hard to capture and today I proved that right! I've tried everything I can and this is the best I can come up with. It applied like a jelly polish to me. I used three coats over a white base. Can get away with two but I felt like it still had bald spots and was not saturated enough. It dried into a pretty, waxy matte finish. Not much difference between with and without top coat, but maybe my top coat just wasn't shiny enough?

Second is Sugar Cane.

*UPDATE: Apparently this one is called Aloha Color. Sugar Cane is a neon green, according to the other swatches I've seen and been tagged in on IG.*

Without top coat
With top coat
Now this is a neon!!! I think my retinas got seared by the brightness of it. Heck, even my camera's lens probably got burned. I'm not sure why they named it the way they did. Maybe they should have just named it Ray of Light or something. Haha. Sugar Cane is more yellow irl, not greenish like my picture suggests. It's like a highlighter exploded on your nails! And get this. This is one, ONE, coat over a white base. ONE COAT! Granted, it's over a white base, but still! Again, applies like a jelly, and dries to a waxy matte finish.

Thoughts? These are so bright, it's not for the faint of heart. I was expecting it to be a bright neon but I was not expecting it to be as bright as it is! And I was never a fan of neons, but since I started getting more interested in nail art, I've been more open to trying colors which I didn't think I would like before. And neon polishes are starting to grow on me! I'll probably ease into it by using these for nail art and not a full-on plain manicure on all ten fingernails. Only issue I have with them is they make my hands look so dark! I swear my hands are not as dark as the picture shows. And yeah I got a few shades darker due to being in the sun most of the weekend, but still, my hands are not that dark. The brushes are also a little too fat and full for my liking, and it tends to grab a lot more polish than I want. But at least it's soft and didn't leave streak marks or make it uneven and bumpy. Just be sure to make your white base even.

Would I recommend these polishes? If you love neon then yes, I would absolutely recommend you get these! It will satisfy your need for a bright neon and more. The formula is on par for a jelly polish, squishy and a little runny, and because it dries matte then dry time is very quick. You must absolutely use this over white though, because I tried without it and it looks like you painted your nails with straight up highlighter pens. Not very pretty but you can try it if you don't want that in-your-face neon. Availability is an issue though, because these polishes are only available at ABC Stores in Las Vegas and Hawaii. If you have nail mail buddies from either place then ask them to kindly get them for you, or if you are taking a trip to Vegas then be sure to check them out.

That's it for part one of my Island Girl haul! Stay tuned for parts two and three. ;)

*I bought these polishes with my own money at the ABC Stores in Las Vegas on Tropicana Ave. Each bottle is $2.99 plus tax. Indi Thursdays: Sindie POP! Mrs. Duck and Dark Side

Hello everyone! For this week's Indie Thursdays (it's Thursday already..?!) I have two polishes from Sindie POP! Lacquer to share with you.

(Side note: I didn't have time to tinker with the curved watermarks, so I went back to my default watermarking app.)

Like almost all other indies I own (which isn't really a lot,) I found out about Sindie POP! on, where else, Instagram! I swear that app will be the death of my wallet! Anyway, I saw Selena's (of @selenadee_nails on IG) swatch of Dark Side, and I knew immediately that I had to have it too!

Here is Sindie POP!'s intro (copied from her website:)

I'm a girl with an infatuation with glitter, so I decided to share it with the world. I custom make all of my nail polishes by hand in my own house. All of my lacquers are 3 FREE: No Formaldehyde, DBP, or Toluene around here.

ONLY DOMESTIC U.S.A. (50 states) shipping is available.
PLEASE READ THE PRODUCT'S DESCRIPTION, MY TERMS AND CONDITIONS PAGE, AND MY FAQ PAGES BEFORE PURCHASING.

Welcome to Sindie POP!

Anyway, without further ado, here is Mrs. Duck:

Check out all that glitter! Mrs. Duck is a sheer milky white base chock-full of periwinkle and gold medium hex glitters, tiny violet, gold and holo (holo!) glitters, and micro periwinkle glitters. Holo=holographic. Believe me when I say it's packed with glitter; I got a pretty decent amount on the first coat, but the base was still sheer at that point so I did three coats. (I'm a glitter hoarder like that. Haha.) It dries gritty due to the amount of glitter in it, so be sure to load up on top coat! (It also helps bring out the glitters more. I love watching a glitter polish transform whenever I put top coat on!)

Here is Dark Side.

Dark Side is a black jelly base with small purple, periwinkle, gold, and teal hex glitters, plus smaller holo (holo!) glitters. This. This is the polish that made me order Sindie POP! in the first place. I love this polish! If you loved Zoya Storm, you will love this polish. If you love black-based glitter, you'll love this. Heck, I think you'll love this polish even if you don't love black, glitters, or holo! (But seriously though, who doesn't love holo?!) The first time I swatched it I think I used three coats, but I've learned my lesson since then and did just two coats. Again, with the amount of glitter, load up on top coat.

Fun fact: Sindie POP! has polishes with "counterparts." For example, Mrs. Duck has a combo polish named Mr. Duck. Dark Side has a combo, or complementary (yes, with an E) polish called Bright Side. Cool, huh?

Thoughts? I love these polishes! I'm so sad I wasn't able to order more, but I definitely will in the future. The formula is good, glitter payoff is great, and dry time is pretty decent. While I really prefer a short and squat brush (Sindie POP! has a long cap/handle, long brush stem and rounded brush) the brushes on these polishes wasn't really an issue. The length of the cap/handle was pretty daunting to me at first but you'll get used to it. The brush also fans out nicely and doesn't make it streaky or leave bald patches.

Will I recommend these polishes? YES! Obviously. Have I told you that I love these polishes? Oh. Haha. Anyway, while the price might be a little steep for others ($9 plus shipping) it's totally worth it. Indies do tend to be a bit more expensive due to the uniqueness of it, and the time and effort it takes to make them. Remember, it's almost always just one or two people doing all the work! And isn't it worth paying just a little bit extra to own and wear a polish that's unique and one of a kind? :)

That's it for this week's Indie Thursdays! I hope you enjoyed this post, and see you next time!

*I bought these polishes with my own money. You can purchase Sindie POP! Lacquer here. Polishes are $9 plus shipping.*

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink: Tape Mani

Hiiiiii everybody! It's Wednesday once again, and you know what that means: it's OWWWP time!

Lately I'm obsessing over tape manis ever since I decided to recreate this mani by Nicole of the Young Wild and Polished blog. I've been following her on Instagram and she's holding a contest of a recreation of her mani. But, sad thing is I needed to also have a YouTube account (which I don't have) so I can't join. I still decided to draw inspiration from her and since then, I'm hooked on tape manis!

I used two pinks for this mani: Orly Artifical Sweetener and Sinful Colors Folly.

I used the Orly for the base and the Sinful Colors for the secondary color.

In hindsight, I should've taken the opportunity to do a tutorial for you guys, but I'm just going to save that for sometime. (Hmm... I'm getting an idea... Tutorial Tuesdays, anyone?)

I used striping tape to make the thin lines. If you're wondering what striping tape looks like, it looks like this:

I bought my striping tape from eBay (the name of the seller escapes me right now) and they're pretty cheap. If you're ordering from a seller from China, it's like a dollar or so for about eight to ten rolls, but shipping can take anywhere from one to four weeks. I ordered mine from a US seller; it's about $3 (with free shipping) but it came in less than a week. I got eight rolls.

Here is the end result of my OWWWP tape mani:

Don't you just hate it when the color doesn't translate well on camera? Folly (the bright pink) is less red and a more darker pink in person. It pretty much looks like a neon. It's very shiny though, which explains the crazy glare.

I tried taking a picture outside in sunlight just to see if the camera will pick up the color better, and here is how it looks like:

It still looks pretty much the same to me. Gahhh I hate when I can't capture the true color!

I really enjoyed doing this mani, even though it's a bit time-consuming and painstaking to place the tape just right. I do have a tip, and that's to remove the tape as soon as you can, because if you take too long to remove it, the polish will start to get stringy and stick to the tape. Also, make sure the base coat is completely dry to avoid it getting pulled by the tape.

I hope you enjoyed today's post, and I hope to see you again on the next OWWWP post!

*I bought these polishes with my own money. Orly can be found at beauty supply stores, Sally Beauty, and you can check their website and enter your zip code to find a salon near you. Sinful Colors can be found at most drugstores and at Target and Walmart.*

*Disclaimer: Due to variations in screen displays and resolutions, polishes may appear different to each reader. I try my best to capture colors as accurately as I can, and if I can't, then I try to describe the color/s to the best of my ability.*

Mainstream Mondays: Revlon Cabana Queen and Coast is Clear

Hi errbody! It's that time of the week again. Time flies by so fast, doesn't it? Well today I have two Revlon polishes for ya, Cabana Queen and Coast is Clear.

These two polishes are from the Revlon Haute Tropics 2013 collection. It has been available for sometime now, like a few weeks ago. I bought these polishes a while back and it has been sitting in my untried pile since then. So now I decided to bust them out for this week's Mainstream Mondays' post.

Looking back, I now wonder why I didn't purchase the other blues in this collection, knowing my love of blues. Oh well. Anyway! Let's get right to it!

First up: Cabana Queen.

Sorry for the crappy watermark, I've been experimenting with a new watermarking app .

Cabana Queen is a very light gray with opalescent microshimmer throughout. The shimmer makes it so that it is not your average grey creme. Application was like a crelly, felt more like a jelly to me but more opaque. I used four, yes FOUR, coats for this bad girl, plus top coat. Not that it needed it, but I just like to finish swatches off with top coat.

And here is Coast is Clear.

I need to trim my nails!

Coast is Clear is a minty green, I guess you could say seafoam since we seem to be going with a summer theme here. Like Cabana Queen, this one has an opalescent microshimmer throughout. It's a little less brighter, more green than turquoise in person. I like this color but again, I used four coats plus top coat, though it didn't really need a top coat for shine.

Thoughts? I have conflicting feelings about these polishes. While I like the color, the amount of coats it took me to cover up bald spots is turning me off. I've tried waiting for each coat to dry completely before applying the next coat but it still leaves bald spots. It's also a bit runny, and will tend to pool in your cuticles if you get too close. It's a shame because the colors are pretty.

Would I recommend these polishes? Yes and no. If you're okay with the amount of coats that it takes to cover up bald spots, then go for it. Personally, I don't mind the number of coats but if you do then I suggest skipping it and finding a color similar to it.

That's it for today's post! I hope you'll join me again next time. :)

*I bought these polishes with my own money. Revlon can be found in most retail stores and drugstores. These were bought at Walgreens for $4.99 each.*

Indie Thursdays: Messy Jessi Speckled Egg Collection

Hi errbody! For this week's Indie Thursday, I have Messy Jessi's debut collection: the Speckled Egg.

I came across this collection on Instagram, when I saw teasers and swatches from some of the girls I am following. I thought to myself, "I should have these polishes!" It was on a preorder status at the time. After I talked to Jessi, the lovely owner, I was able to snag a set for the preorder price even though it ended a few days earlier before I paid. See, Jessi is a really sweet person!

Who is Messy Jessi? (copied from her website:)

About
Hand-blending custom nail lacquer for the modern woman and man. All lacquers are hand-blended in very small batches, typically on-demand! Have a look around and be sure to come back often! Love, Messy Jessi

So, without further ado, I present to you the gorgeous Speckled Egg polishes!

Warm Collection: Quail, Finch, House Wren
Cool Collection: Mockingbird, Snowy Plover, Easter Bunny
The collection is divided into two: The Warm and the Cool  collection. It also came with a preorder-exclusive glitter top coat, Speckled. All of the polishes have black hex glitter of different sizes.

Let's start with the Warm collection. First up: Quail.

Quail is the one that looks most like an egg to me, like a quail egg! It's in a milky nude base, kinda like coffee with tons of creamer. I used two coats plus top coat.

Next, we have Finch.

Finch is a milky minty green base. Makes me think of mint chocolate chip ice cream!I used three coats plus top coat.

Rounding up the Warm collection is House Wren.

House Wren is a milky pink base. Like a strawberry smoothie :) I used three coats plus top coat.

Now the Cool Collection. First up, Mockingbird.

Mockingbird is a milky pale blue. Lighter than a robin's egg blue, but pretty nonetheless. I used three coats plus top coat.

Next, we have Snowy Plover.

Snowy Plover is a pale gray that doesn't look quite like concrete. It's a beautiful shade of pale gray. I used two coats plus top coat.

Last but not the least, we have Easter Bunny.

Easter Bunny is a milky pale lavender base. I used three coats plus top coat.

And here's the preorder exclusive top coat, Speckled.

Speckled is a clear base with the same black glitters as the above polishes. I placed it over a Skittles mani to show how it looks on different polishes. This could probably look cool over a white base too. I used one coat on all nails, plus top coat.

Thoughts? I LOVE these polishes. I cannot afford the Illamasqua ones and these were a cheaper, but just as pretty, alternative. Granted, the Illamasquas have smaller glitter, but they're pretty much in the same family. I love how easy the polishes were to work with. Even though some colors took three coats, I don;t mind because they dried really fast! Plus, they have a very good glitter payoff, so I'm happy with that. No need to fish around so much for the bigger pieces.

Would I recommend these polishes? YES. They are sold out now, but maybe Jessi will bring them back someday? *insert hopeful face here* Even though this is her first collection, it did not disappoint due to the prettiness and the quality of the polishes.

There you have it for! I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed writing it. Til the next time! :)

*I bought these polsihes with my own money from Messy Jessi. It is sold out as of now. You can contact her on her website, Instagram, and Facebook.*
